The Steakhouse – Wells Maine

Here’s a valuable lesson from my recent experience: when you find yourself at a steakhouse, don’t be tempted by the fancy seafood. Just go straight for the steak! We recently went to The Steakhouse in Wells and boy, do they know how to please carnivorous appetites. They do not take reservations and are always fairly busy. Yeah, you might have to wait a bit, but trust me – every second of that wait will be worth it.

Here’s the breakdown 🙂

The spicy margarita left Layla feeling a little jalapeño disappointed. It claimed to be spicy, but it didn’t quite bring the heat as expected. And let’s not forget the missing salt on the rim! A crime against good margaritas, if you ask me. On the bright side, at least it was strong enough to provide some much-needed comfort.

I tried the lemon drop martini and it was just okay… a little too sweet for my taste buds. Finding a good lemon drop martini seems to be as elusive as finding the Loch Ness Monster these days. I will keep searching my friend! The perfect lemon drop martini is out there somewhere…

Those onion rings were fried so perfectly, they should win an award for crispy deliciousness! The thinly sliced onion allowed the breading to give it just the right amount of crunch-to-onion ratio. And let’s not forget about that tangy horseradish ranch sauce, adding the perfect zing to complement those delightful rings. Amazing!

The salads were an absolute taste sensation! The dressing was so good, you could tell it was homemade with love. And oh my, the freshness of every ingredient made me forget all my tomato fears. We both loved the salads.

I ordered the Surf and Turf steak and broiled scallops. The steak was an absolute superstar, stealing the show like a seasoned actor. But alas, the poor scallops couldn’t quite keep up – they were overcooked and ended up a rubbery disappointment.

Layla ordered the 14 oz New York strip steak cooked medium, but it decided to be a rebel and come out more on the medium rare side. But hey, no complaints here! It was still scrumptious and not too underdone. Now that blue cheese butter… oh my goodness! It’s so good, it could probably bring a steak back to life. The way it melts on the meat is pure magic. It truly is the ultimate partner-in-crime for a perfectly grilled steak! And the indulgence of homemade baked beans! They are so scrumptious that they make your taste buds do a little happy dance. And to add to the cuteness, they serve them in their own cute little bean pot. It’s like a mini vacation for your stomach!

The house potato is like a delightful, cubed-up version of a loaded baked potato. I must admit, I was skeptical because I’m not a fan of green pepper. But they diced it up so small that it actually added some wonderful flavor to the dish!

Layla just can’t get enough of this restaurant in Southern Maine! Sure, the seafood might have left me feeling a tad underwhelmed, but when it comes to steaks, this place is like a shining star in the night sky. There are so many great seafood places in the area if that is what you are craving. It’s definitely worth a visit for a fun night out in Wells.

And what about you? Which restaurants send your taste buds into a wild frenzy? Don’t hold back, spill the beans in the comments below! If I ever find myself wandering through that neck of the woods, I’ll be sure to give them a whirl.
